Title - General Educational Development (GED)

About the GED® Program

Almost every kind of job requires a high school diploma. It is a minimum requirement for admission to all post-secondary educational and vocational programs within South Dakota. Without a high school diploma, it is almost impossible to advance in your job or career.

The South Dakota Department of Labor and Regulation recognizes the importance of this educational milestone and provides the General Educational Development (GED®) program to help you if you have not completed a regular high school program leading to a diploma.

The GED® measures the outcome of a high school education. The GED® consists of five tests: Math, Science, Social Studies, Writing and Reading. The GED® is available in English, large-print, audiocassette and Braille. Accommodations can be made available to examinees with disabilities.
